Online Catalogue    Blank Matryoshka and Craft Supplies    Tips on Decorating
Before starting your project it is important to consider the shape of the set of nesting blanks and what will work on them.
Begin by drawing the shape on paper and try sketching the rough design onto it, this will highlight any obvious problems and help guide you when selecting what shape to buy, or help you to see how the project needs to be ammended to fit the blanks you have.

Next begin lightly drawing the design onto the blanks with pencil.

There are a vast array of materials that can be used when decorating the Nesting Blanks. Below are a few suggestions to get you started.
Acrylic Paint
Gouache
Watercolour
Inks
Pencil crayon
Felt Tips
Gel pens
Tissue, felt etc
Glitter
Gems
Rub on transfers
Decopatch papers
Decoupage
Woodburn
Stampers

When painting eyes, or dots in general, you may find it easier to use the wrong end of the paint brush. Cover it generously in paint and dab onto the surface (a couple of practices on paper first will help perfect the technique). Different size paintbrushes can be used to vary dots. For eyes simply dab a large white blob, let it dry than dab a smaller coloured blob on top, allow to dry then add a final smaller black blob. Again, practising on paper will allow you to experiment with colours, sizes and positions.

To decorate the smallest doll you may find it easier to stick a pin in the bottom then push the other end into a lump of plasticine or blutak, this helps when holding and makes it easier to put down to dry.

When your project is complete you may wish to protect it with varnish, make sure all the components on your set of blanks are compatible with the type of varnish selected.
